Maximalism: the art of more-is-more

About The Modern Maximalist

Where It Started

The Modern Maximalist was born out of necessity. As avid foodies, Melissa and her boyfriend love to checkout as many restaurants as possible. Her boyfriend has collected matchbooks from the different restaurants they’ve visited together over the years, and he had taken to displaying them in a jar that did not match their decor aesthetic. Then a several-year-long game of Melissa hiding the jar and her boyfriend seeking the jar ensued. She finally decided to play around with resin and create a functional, beautiful piece for him to display some of their favorite memories and relive those moments. While creating this first piece, she discovered her love of creating unique art with resin.

What We Stand For

At The Modern Maximalist, we believe design should be stylish AND functional. Our passion is creating one of a kind pieces for your home, tying in cheeky, unexpected elements from natural flowers and fruits to over the counter pills.

About the Creator

Melissa is a lover of design in all forms. She graduated from Auburn University in 2016 with a degree in Apparel Merchandising where her love of style was born. She’s worked in the fashion and interior design industries where this passion has blossomed.

When she’s not working on new concepts for The Modern Maximalist, you can find her hanging out with her dogs and cat or checking out a new restaurant or cocktail bar.
